Pink Wojak is a 2017 /biz/ variation of Frustrated Wojak which is colored in pink, with a probably yelling opened mouth, widened eyes, and bloody tears. Occasionally, this meme is subverted and the Smug and Frustrated faces are switched, or other Wojak faces are used for the character and/or their mask, but in most of the early occurrences of this meme, the character is a frustrated one. The mask either is round anddisplays the Dorito Face emoticon, or is shaped like a Smug Wojak's face. The Masked Crying Wojak (or Wojak Mask) is a variation of the Frustrated Wojak, dating back at least to January 2016, where the Wojak's frustrated face is covered by a mask in order to hide his true feelings. The Crying Soyjak, particularly, was one of /qa/'s main exploitables. As such, the Zoomer Wojak, Soyjak, NPC Wojak and Poljak, to name a few, all have their Frustrated version. The Frustrated Wojak face has often been used in conjunction with other variations of Wojak, to illustrate frustration expressed from specific groups. The Pepe supporters would often use the Smug Frog to emphasize Pepe's dominance, and the Frustrated Wojak to emphasize Wojak's defeat.Īpart from this usage, this Wojak has also served as an exploitable for many fanarts, created to show various characters in tears as reaction images. One of its most common usages at the beginning of its existence was in conjunction with the Smug Frog meme in drawings known as Pepe x Wojak, where the memetic characters Pepe the Frog and Wojak interacted, mostly as enemies. SpreadĪs many Wojak memes, the Frustrated Wojak had a lot of success on various 4chan boards, where it was often paired with the line "IT'S NOT FAAAAAIIIIIIR". While the character has been more commonly known as "Crying Wojak" over the years of its existence, there is another Wojak variation called "Crying Wojak", showing the character with his head buried in his hands, which predates it back to 2012. In the fourth box of the comic, set into the future, the foreseen character shows physical signs of sadness and anger: additional lines form a frown, his teeth are visible and clenched, his eyes are colored pink as if they were blood-injected, and blue lines symbolize dripping tears and snot. The oldest recorded occurrence of a Frustrated Wojak comes from an unsourced Wojak comic dated from late 2014, and which displays the evolution of the Wojak face through the years. It was used by Internet users to express sadness and frustration, on their own behalf or speaking about other people, and has been an inspiration for many other Wojak memes. On December 5th, 2016, a question asking about the name of the meme appeared on /r/OutOfTheLoop.Crying Wojak, also called Frustrated Wojak or, more rarely, Angry Wojak or It's Not Fair Wojak, is a variation on the Wojak face, driven to tears and clenching his teeth. On November 20th, Versace acknowledged that he had become a meme in a tweet. These spread through Twitter throughout the rest of 2016. This spike caused variations in which users replaced the lyrics to "Black Beatles" with different, oftentimes ostensibly unfashionable lyrics (i.e. Over the next two days, the tweet was copied by popular meme accounts such as WORLDSTARHIPHOP and life of a blonde. Her tweet gained over 8,300 retweets and 14,000 favorites. The first known usage of the image as a meme came on November 3rd, 2016, when Twitter user used it in reference to popular Rae Sremmurd song "Black Beatles" (shown below). The first picture went on to be used in Twitter memes later that year. The tweet gained over 710 retweets and 1,200 likes. On May 13th, 2016, Versace tweeted his excitement about the release of the latest album from hip-hop artist Chance the Rapper with four pictures of him emotionally listening to music in his headphones (shown below). It's name has been an issue of dispute among researchers and social media users. The image grew popular as a parody of emotional reactions to music in the fall of 2016, as Twitter users paired the image with song lyrics and a motion-blurred picture of a volume knob being turned up. Turn Up the Volume is an image of popular Vine, Twitter, and Instagram personality Jay Versace crying with headphones on while pumping his fist in the air.
